The Blue Jays have placed Aaron Sanchez on the 10-Day Disabled List due to an index finger contusion on his throwing hand.
This was the thing that knocked Sanchez out after the first inning of Thursday’s game against the Angels. Everybody knew something was a miss when he was all over the zone and didn’t throw a single curveball out of 25 pitches in that frame.
I’ll reiterate again that this isn’t the same issue that sidelined Sanchez for most of the 2017 season. Last year, it was a blister that was on his middle finger and this is a bruise on his index finger. I’m not a doctor, but I think a bruise would be easier to deal with than a blister/finger problem that requires you to remove a part of your nail.
This comes right when there was some reason for optimism in the Blue Jays rotation, with both Marco Estrada and Sanchez looking like they’ve returned to their old form, Marcus Stroman coming back from the DL, and J(ays)A(ce) Happ pitching like a star. Alas, they’re the Toronto Blue Jays and smooth sailing hasn’t been a thing the past two seasons, so now not only is Sanchez DL-bound, we’re going to see either Joe Biagini or Jaime Garcia make a start in that vacated spot.
Let’s hope the return of the Stro Show tonight is legendary.
EDIT: Jaime Garcia was also just placed on the DL, so…congrats Joe or is Ryan Borucki time?
