AL East moves see Yankees acquire Frankie Montas, Red Sox acquire Reese McGuire and Tommy Pham, Orioles ship out Trey Mancini and more

A busy afternoon around the AL East on Monday.
It got kicked off with the division-leading New York Yankees pick up starter Frankie Montas and reliever Lou Trivino from the Athletics. In exchange, the Yankees are sending left-handers Ken Waldichuk and J.P. Sears, right-hander Luis Medina and 2B Cooper Bowman — all four of whom being top-20 prospects in the New York ranks.
The Red Sox, meanwhile, shipped off catcher Christian Vasquez to the Houston Astros in exchange for prospect outfielders Emmanuel Valdez and Wilyer Abreu. An awkward moment Monday, too, given the Red Sox and Astros were about to play each other.
That was all for the Red Sox, as they quickly turned around and picked up former Jays catcher Reese McGuire in exchange for lefty reliever Jake Diekman.
A big, three-way trade happened Monday night that involved the Tampa Bay Rays, the Baltimore Orioles and the Astros hat saw:
The Astros get: 1B/OF Trey Mancini and RHP Jayden Murray;
The Orioles get: RHP Seth Johnson and Chayce McDermott;
The Rays get: CF Jose Siri.
As noted by ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the best prospect of the list is Johnson, who the Rays moved due to a 40-man roster crunch.
Of it all, the most notable deal without a doubt is the Montas to New York deal. He’s a player the Jays have been linked to already and it shrinks the market even more for starters after Luis Castillo was shipped to the Mariners.
It’s hard to get a read on the Red Sox, who at this point are simultaneously buying and selling, while the Orioles — as good as they’ve been this year — are moving one of their best pieces despite sitting three games back in the AL wildcard race.
