Borucki to make rehab start with the Bisons

One of the bright lights on the 2018 version of the Blue Jays, lefty Ryan Borucki has been inching closer to a return from a spring injury and will now be making a rehab start tonight with the Triple-A Bisons.

Borucki was sidelined with elbow discomfort during Spring Training and has been out every since, slowly making his way up through the Jays’ system rehabbing and will hopefully be back in the majors sooner rather than later. Especially with all of the Stroman rumours swirling, Borucki’s addition to the rotation will be welcomed with open arms.

After getting called up in the middle of last season, Borucki was able to get batters out with efficiency. The 25-year-old had pitched a total of 97.2 innings for a 3.87 ERA, but had a minimal 6.17 K/9 while also walking 3.04 per nine — not the best ratio but he was one of the reasons to tune in late last season.

In High-A Dunedin this season, in a rehab start, he pitched four shutout innings with four strikeouts and only one hit allowed.

Now in Buffalo, Borucki will most likely make a couple starts as he progresses back and will join the rotation in around the July 31 trade deadline.

With Stroman most likely on his way out and Sanchez being at the bottom of the AL in terms of starters, it will most likely be a Trent Thornton and Borucki-led starting rotation for the rest of 2019.
