Game Threat: Win One For Donny, Orioles (6-2) @ Blue Jays (1-8)
By Cam Lewis
7 years agoThe Blue Jays are set to begin life without Josh Donaldson. The guy to welcome them? Wade Miley.
This happened today. Josh Donaldson was placed on the 10-day DL, and Chris Coghlan was recalled. I imagine you’ve heard already.
Maybe they can bring back this guy. He may not be able to solve a Rubik’s Cube, but can he solve the Jays hitting nightmares? Probably not.

And now, the lineups…
Blue Jays
Aaron Sanchez: 192 IP, 3.00 ERA, 1.167 WHIP, 7.5 H9, 0.7 HR9, 3.0 BB9, 7.5 SO9
Orioles
Wade Miley: 112 IP, 5.37 ERA, 1.422 WHIP, 10.1 H9, 1.4 HR9, 2.7 BB9, 7.4 SO9
That’s an absolutely hideous lineup that the Blue Jays are trotting out there. That’s what happens when Josh Donaldson isn’t there, and the hitting depth didn’t exist to start with. But Wade Miley is pitching for the Orioles, so maybe it doesn’t even matter. Kevin Pillar will move up to the leadoff spot, lefty-masher Steve Pearce will fill the number two hole, and Devon Travis remains at the bottom.
Aaron Sanchez will make his second start of the season tonight. He was excellent in his first, allowing just one earned run over seven innings of work against Tampa Bay. He’s very familiar with the Orioles. Last season, Sanchez made five starts against Baltimore, winning four of them, and holding the O’s to just ten runs in total. This really is a game, based on the pitching match up, that the Jays should win. But at this point? Nothing is a given.
