The winning streak is over!
The Tampa Bay Rays rolled into Toronto with a 13-0 record and the Blue Jays handed them their first loss of the season thanks to five strong innings from Jose Berrios and a 5-for-5 day at the plate from Bo Bichette.
The Blue Jays will look to take this weekend’s series with Yusei Kikuchi on the mound. Kikuchi was solid in his first outing of the season against the Kansas City Royals but he allowed six earned runs over four-and-one-third innings in his last start against the Los Angeles Angels. He faced the Rays three times last season and posted a 2.45 ERA.
The Rays will send reliever Calvin Faucher out to the mound as an opener and the expectation is that lefty Josh Fleming will pitch three or four innings after him. Fleming got lit up by the Washington Nationals in his first appearance of the season but settled down in his most recent outing against the Boston Red Sox. All told, he has a 6.43 ERA over 7.0 innings of work.
First pitch is scheduled for 3:07 eastern time and it appears that the roof at the Rogers Centre will be open.
