Things worth mentioning…

• Mike Fiers started this game looking like a creepy uncle from the 1970s. I don’t know why it’s worth mentioning, but it is. Seriously, friends don’t let friends wear a mustache like that. He gave up three hits, three walks, and five earned runs in three innings.
• Curtis Granderson looks like he’s ready to start the season. He hit a home run in the first and added a triple later, raising his spring training average to .400 with four home runs, two triples and a double in nine games. The Grandy Man can rake.
• Teoscar Hernandez had the most Teoscar Hernandez day today, hitting a grand slam in the first inning off Mike Fiers and then striking out in his next two at-bats. We definitely know the power is there, but he’s going to have to work out that plate discipline problem in Buffalo. He has nine strikeouts in 24 spring at-bats.
• We got our first extended look at Jaime Garcia today. He only allowed three singles, all of them soft, all on the ground, and one of them would have been scored an E5 had it been in a real game. Garcia isn’t going to be your ace, but that type of outing – five ground balls, two fly balls, a walk, and two strikeouts – is a good sign from your fifth starter.
• Josh Donaldson played just one inning and then was relieved by Jason Leblebijian after drawing a walk in the first. Gibbons later said on the broadcast that he’s dealing with cramping and was a little dehydrated. Jump to your conclusions.
