It Seems Ryan Borucki Was Promoted To Triple-A Buffalo

Huh, it looks like this one kind of slipped under the radar. But as you can see on the Buffalo Bisons’ official website, Ryan Borucki is slated to pitch for the team against Pawtucket on Thursday. That would suggest that he’s been promoted from Double-A to Triple-A, right? Right!

I imagine that with the news of eight Blue Jays prospects being added to Arizona Fall League rosters taking up the limelight, this kind of just got glossed over. But regardless, it’s a pretty interesting bit of news for a prospect who’s really burst onto the scene in the past few months.

Borucki was a 15th round pick back in 2012 and, despite putting up some solid numbers in the minors, has never really been viewed as a top prospect. I mean, he was ranked Toronto’s No. 16 prospect coming into the season according to Baseball America and has never been ranked higher than No. 12.

This year, he’s really found his stride with Double-A New Hampshire. Borucki put up a good-not-great 3.58 ERA in 18 starts with Dunedin before getting the call to New Hampshire due largely to organizational shuffle as pitchers moved up to fill the needs of the big club. Since then, the 23-year-old lefty has made seven starts and has a sparkling 1.94 ERA. All told, he has a 3.04 ERA through 26 starts this season and is striking out 9.4 batters per nine while walking only 2.4 per nine between two levels. That’s some damn solid stuff.

Borucki is on the 40-man roster, so I imagine he’ll get a cup of coffee with the Blue Jays at some point after rosters expand. This front office isn’t as interested, it seems, as the old one when it comes to rushing prospects through the system to fill roles on the big league club, but there’s a decent chance he’ll be auditioning for a role with the Blue Jays in some capacity next season.
