Worth Mentioning

• At the bottom of the seventh, Gurriel Jr. hit a two-run double to give the Jays a 2-1 lead and their first runs of the game, Smoak and Grichuk were in to score. Smoak was able to hit a zero-out single to right infield and Randal Grichuk was able to hit a line drive double to advance Smoak to third. Chaz Roe came in for Blake Snell that was pitching a spectacular game, and Roe messed it all up for them — earning two runs on three hits in just two outs.
• Buchholz’s first inning as a Blue Jay did not start out perfectly well. Tommy Pham hit a one-out rolling single to left field, Ji-Man Choi got on base with another single right after Pham, but because of a failed stealing attempt by Choi and a popout from Yandy Diaz, he got out with just two hits allowed. The starter was unable to get a single strikeout until the fourth, getting ahead in the count 1-2 against Brandon Lowe and striking him out with an 87 MPH four-seamer. Through the first five innings, he was able to keep it scoreless without going above 90 MPH — pure finesse.
• Blake Snell started the game with nine straight outs and four strikeouts. It shouldn’t be a surprise anymore when the Jays start with getting no-hit. He even had a perfect game until Smoak walked with one out in the middle of the fourth. Snell’s no-hitter was broken when Maile hit a one-out line drive single to left field at the bottom of the sixth.
• Tellez almost continues his hot home run streak, having the ball just hug the outside of the foul pole in the fifth inning. Just the pitch after, he gave Snell his eighth strikeout of the game.
• Thomas Pannone came in for Buchholz at the top of the seventh. The starter didn’t allow a single walk but earned one run, allowed six hits and struck out two in 69 pitches. For Pannone’s first batter, he struck out Lowe.
• The Jays earned two errors on one play at the top of the seventh. Garcia hit what should have been a simple groundout to second, but Gurriel Jr. threw a wild pitch past Tellez at first, Maile tried to throw Garcia out at second but the ball was bounced into the air as soon as it hit Galvis and Garcia was able to reach third. Messy. But luckily after that, Kiermaier hit a fly-out to left field and Hernandez was able to throw Garcia out at home with a monster throw to Maile.
•  Tim Mayza had a massive out, coming in relief of Joe Biagini at the top of the eighth with batters on first and third, delivering a strikeout to Rays pitch-hitter Daniel Robertson.
