Nate Pearson just dominated in the Futures Game

The Blue Jays’ number-two prospect after Bo Bichette, Nate Pearson just pitched a beautiful inning in the Futures Game in the All-Star festivities, was virtually unhittable.

It took just a total of 12 pitches to get through three batters for the right-handed starter that was providing some insane heat. Peaking at 101.7 MPH, Pearson’s delivery came as advertised and didn’t disappoint the velocity lovers out there.

While giving some heat to the National League prospects, Pearson was extremely effective — nine of his twelve pitches called for strikes and only allowing one ball in play. Even the one live ball was just a dribbler with a 0.70 xBA according to Statcast that came off a 90.5 MPH slider.

Looking down the entire list of Pearson’s pitches looks just like a red-stained stat sheet with all the velocity he was delivering tonight.

Not only was it beautiful looking at those numbers, but he had some jaw-dropping pitches visually.

This video should be put up in the Louvre for it is art and the highest-brow art that baseball fans could enjoy. Not a ton in this game is better than just seeing a pitcher destroy an inning like that.

Selected at 28th overall in the 2017 MLB Draft, Pearson has had a steady rise through the Jays’ system. Starting the year at High-A Dunedin, Pearson was clearly too good for that league as he posted a 0.86 ERA and a 15 K/9 rate through 21 innings. After being promoted up to Double-A New Hampshire, Pearson had his raw numbers rise — a 3.54 ERA and 10.3 K/9 rate through 28 innings — but has no doubt earned his number-two ranking in the Jays’ prospect pool.

He’s still only 22-years-old, but according to Fangraphs, Pearson has an ETA of 2020, potentially contributing to one of the youngest projected teams in the major leagues.

The hype is real with this one and it’s beautiful to watch.
