The team-vs.-team history is in the Toronto Blue Jays’ corner, but that might be cancelled out by the seeming freefall of starting pitcher Aaron Sanchez.
The Blue Jays are the -122 home  favorite (wager $122 to win $100) while the Baltimore Orioles are a +112 away underdog with a 10.0-run total on the MLB odds for Friday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The OddsShark MLB Database reveals that the Blue Jays are 8-2 in their last 10 games as home favorites against the Orioles, and they are also 7-3 in their last 10 games as a home favorite of -120 to -140 on the moneyline. The Orioles are 1-9 in their last 10 away games as a +110 to +140 moneyline underdog.
Orioles at Blue Jays | OddsShark Matchup Report
The big question for the Blue Jays is whether Friday’s starter, Aaron Sanchez, can recover his past form, at least for one night. Sanchez has been charged with a 3-11 record and a 6.31 earned-run average on the season and the Blue Jays are 1-9 in his last 10 starts. The total has also gone OVER in seven of those games.
Both teams have also been scoring, and allowing runs, at a steady clip. The total has gone OVER in both eight of the Blue Jays’ last 10 home games and seven of the Orioles’ last 10 away games. Both samples have an average 12.1 total.
This is, however, Sanchez’s first start of the season against Baltimore, whom he is 6-3 against with a 3.90 ERA in 80.2 career innings. The Orioles are countering with Dylan Bundy (3-10, 4.91 ERA), who is on eight days’ rest due to a rotation shuffle, and has contributed to the total finishing UNDER in five of his last six starts where Baltimore was an away underdog.
Blue Jays closer Ken Giles has worked in three consecutive games and is likely unavailable for Friday’s contest.
As a team, Toronto is 25th in MLB in both OPS (.712) and ERA (4.93). The Orioles are 27th in OPS (.705) and 30th in ERA (5.75).
Lefthander Clayton Richard (1-4, 6.51 ERA), who has had consecutive quality starts, starts for the Blue Jays on Saturday. The total has gone OVER in Richard’s last three home starts. The Orioles start their hottest pitcher, righty Andrew Cashner (8-3, 4.03 ERA), who has helped Baltimore go 5-1 across his last six starts.
Trent Thornton (2-6, 5.18 ERA) starts for the Blue Jays in the series finale on Sunday as he seeks to end a string of two bad starts. The total has gone OVER in six of Thornton’s last eight home starts. The Orioles counter with Gabriel Ynoa (0-6, 6.22 ERA).
Following the all-star break, the Blue Jays begin the second half with a three-game road series against the New York Yankees..
