Ryan Borucki continues to be good

While the Blue Jays are largely unwatchable unless they’re playing the Orioles at this point, Ryan Borucki continues to be a bright spot.

Borucki, who was recalled today after being sent to Triple-A over the Major League All-Star break, tossed another strong start but couldn’t earn his first career win because the rest of the team hates him.

He tossed six innings without allowing an earned run, surrendering six hits, no walks, and collecting two strikeouts. The two runs Minnesota scored against Borucki came in the sixth inning when Teoscar Hernandez made a can of corn look like a fucking hot potato. The Jays also refused to give Borucki any run support so there was virtually zero margin for error for him in this run. They managed just five hits and a walk off of Jose Berrios and two relievers.

Regardless, Borucki was very good again. He’s now put up four quality starts in five outings and owns a 2.79 ERA over his brief Major League career. The thing about Borucki I find particularly good is how he pounds the strike zone like some kind of baby faced Mark Buehrle. He works quickly, throws strikes, and doesn’t seem to get rattled on the mound despite the terrible defence and nonexistent offence playing behind him.

As you can likely tell by my tone, there aren’t all too many reasons to watch the games at this point save for an enjoyment of baseball or a hatred of self. That said, Borucki Day has actually become something to pay attention to this year as this young pitcher continues to impress.
