Getting the job done against the Yankees at home in Buffalo? Feels good, man.

Things worth mentioning…

  • The stage was set perfectly on Thursday night. The Blue Jays kicked the piss out of the Yankees on Wednesday to bring their magic number to one and Hyun Jin Ryu was set to start the series finale. All the team needed was a win and they would punch their ticket to the playoffs. With their ace on the mound, they did just that.
  • Ryu pitched the best game by any Blue Jay this season. He went seven innings (becoming the first Blue Jay starter to do so this season) without allowing a single run, surrendering just five hits and two walks while striking out four. That’s ace stuff, you love to see it.
  • Vlad Jr. got things kicked off in the second inning with a solo homer and then Cavan Biggio and Bo Bichette hit back-to-back doubles to give the team a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Alejandro Kirk gave the Jays some insurance in the sixth inning when he clubbed a two-run double off of Adam Ottavino to make the score 4-0.
  • But, since it’s the 2020 Blue Jays, they had to make things a little difficult. Anthony Bass came into the game in the eighth inning and allowed a single and three walks. He was pulled in favour of Rafael Dolis with two outs and the bases loaded. Dolis would get Gary Sanchez to fly out to the warning track, coming about a foot away from hitting a go-ahead grand slam.
  • Dolis would end up shutting the door in the ninth inning and, now, here we are. The Blue Jays are a playoff team. What a fucking ride.
