Our old friend David Price made his 2018 Grapefruit League today for the Red Sox and he had a very good time. Ryan Borucki, on the other hand, did not.

Things worth mentioning…

  • David Price, Boston Red Sock, was very, very good in his 2018 debut. He pitched four near perfect innings and the only blemishes were a single to Teoscar Hernandez and a walk to Jason Leblebijian.
  • Ryan Borucki was not very, very good today. He allowed four runs, only two earned, over two-and-a-third innings, scattering four hits and a couple of walks. A lot of that damage came when Christian Vasquez smacked a two-run bomb in the second inning.
  • Luis Santos came in after Borucki and got smacked around a little bit. It was really the first blemish he had in an otherwise very good spring showing. He went one-and-a-third and got tagged for two earned runs on three hits. I still think Santos is a good candidate to be the long guy out of the ‘pen, but not being on the 40-man means he has an uphill battle.
  • Speaking of the long guy, Deck McGuire has continued to be excellent over his Redemption Tour. He came in the eighth and had a three up, three down inning, facing Blake Swihart and *squints* Dan Butler and Aneury Tavarez.
  • Matt Dermody also got hit around a bit, allowing one run on four hits in his inning of work. The biggest issue was that he got hit hard by a couple of lefty batter which, uh, isn’t good if you’re auditioning to be the lefty guy out of the ‘pen.
  • Teoscar Hernandez and Aledmys Diaz were the stars of the day offensively. Hernandez continued to hit the fuck out of the ball smacking a single off of David Price and a two-run double off of Roenis Elías. Hernandez has a 1.119 OPS for the spring. HOOOOOOOBBBBOOOOY ALL ABORD THE HYPE TRAIN.
