The Toronto Blue Jays have dipped their toes into the Juan Soto sweepstakes, but the temperature is just too hot.
According to the MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Jays have stepped out of the conversations surrounding Soto.
In one sense or the other, the Jays have been linked to Soto since his name appeared on the trade market. A big, power lefty is exactly what the Jays need to add to what’s already a potent offensive lineup.
As Morosi on Monday, the Jays have “dipped their toes” into the trade market, but they may be forced to move Bo Bichette as a part of the deal. It would be a tough move to make given how big of a fan favourite Bichette has become in his short time in Toronto.
But if the Jays are serious about winning a pennant and a World Series title, they need to be willing to do whatever it takes to add to this roster.
At the time of writing, 11:30 a.m. EST on Tuesday, it appears the San Diego Padres are the current front-runners for Soto, so it’s entirely possible the Jays just get outbid here.
To a certain extent, a trade for a guy like Soto could be more of an offseason move for a team like Toronto. Alas, we’ll see what the next six and a bit hours hold ahead of the deadline.
