Giacomo Taschin is quickly making a name for himself in the Toronto Blue Jays organization.
The 19-year-old Italian made his second start at the Single-A, and it’s his best start yet. Overall, the left-handed pitcher finished with a line of 5 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K. His lone blemish came in the top of the third, giving up a lead-off double, then a two-out single. That was enough to be tagged for the loss.
Despite the loss, Taschin had a great game, generating 16 whiffs in the five innings he pitched. It just so happened that Tampa Tarpons starter, Henry Lalane struck out 12 over seven scoreless innings, surrendering just one hit.
Diving deeper into the stats, Taschin threw 44 four-seam fastball, averaging 88.8 mph on it and touching 90.6 mph. Still, the heater generated 11 whiffs on 26 total swings, good for a 42 whiff%. His changeup, which sat 79 mph, generated three whiffs on eight total swings, while his 80.3 mph slider generated two whiffs on three total pitches. Altogether, Taschin had a 43 whiff%.
Signed by the Blue Jays in April 2025, Taschin didn’t make his affiliate debut until this season. However, he spent four seasons pitching in Italy, posting a 1.11 ERA over four seasons with his hometown Itas Mutua Rovigo, making his debut as a 14-year-old in 2021.
Joining the Florida Complex League Blue Jays to begin the season, he appeared in seven games and had a 1.99 ERA and 3.75 FIP in 22.2 innings of work. His stuff played down in the rookie leagues as well, finishing his brief tenure at the level with a 34.8 K% and 7.9 BB%.
In his two starts with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, Taschin has a 3.38 ERA and 3.88 FIP in eight innings of work, with a 28.1 K% and 6.3 BB%.

Other notes…

The D-Jays ended up losing that game 6-2, with the bullpen surrendering five runs after Taschin’s departure. Both their runs came after Lalane departed, scoring both in the bottom of the ninth. With a man on first and two-outs, JoJo Parker hit his 16th double of the season. Two batters later, Adam Hackenberg drove in two with his seventh double of the season.
In Triple-A, the Buffalo Bisons fell 12-1 to the Iowa Cubs. There aren’t a whole lot of positives to take away from this game, but Jonatan Clase, Yohendrick Piñango, and C.J. Stubbs all had two singles. The other upper minor team, the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, were rained out.
All three Blue Jays “A” affiliates in action on Friday, as the Vancouver Canadians fell 7-4 to the Hillsboro Hops. Peyton Williams hit two doubles, his 12th and 13th of the season, while Kendry Chirinos hit his fourth double of the year.
Things went better for the organization in the rookie leagues. The Florida Complex League Blue Jays defeated the FCL Tigers 5-4, moving their season record to 29-11. Angel Guzman hit his seventh double of the season, while Kennew Blanco hit his first triple. Pascual Archila finished the game with two singles.
One of the Blue Jays’ top prospects, Arjun Nimmala, was set to appear in a rehab game, but was removed before getting a plate appearance, which was likely precautionary according to The Toronto Star’s D.M. Fox. Connor O’Halloran made the start, giving up three earned runs and three walks over two-thirds of an inning.
Both Dominican Summer League teams won their games as well. The DSL Blue Jays Red defeated the DSL Tigers 1 by a score of 13-3. Outfielder Elian Reyes drove in five thanks to his first two professional home runs, becoming the fourth Blue Jays prospect in the DSL to hit a home run this season.
The DSL Blue Jays Blue also won, albeit by a score of 3-1 over the DSL Cubs Red. They mustered just four hits, with Fabian Gonzalez and Michael Mesa each hitting their sixth double, and Yariel Cordero hitting his first professional double.
