The Dunedin Blue Jays are about to get some Italian flavour.
Left-hander Giacomo Taschin, who hails from Rovigo, Italy, is getting the bump from the FCL Blue Jays to Single-A Dunedin.
Signed as an international free agent in 2025, Taschin didn’t pitch in affiliated baseball last season and made the jump stateside this season to suit up for the FCL squad. Taschin appeared in seven games for the Jays, posting a 1.99 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP across 22.2 innings of work. The 19-year-old made four starts for Dunedin, going at least three innings in each outing. Out of the bullpen, Taschin pitched in a bulk capacity, going at least 2+ innings each time.
Across those seven outings, Taschin allowed 16 hits, five earned runs, and seven walks compared to 31 strikeouts, good for a 12.3 K/9 and a 2.8 BB/9. He’s held opponents to a .298 BABIP and a .281 OBP, .300 SLG, and a .581 OPS.
Taschin earned FCL Pitcher of the Week honours in early June thanks to his impressive outing against the FCL Phillies and FCL Tigers, allowing just three hits with zero earned runs while striking out seven across a combined six innings of work.
Before joining the Jays, Taschin was a two-way player for Rovigo in Italian Sereis A baseball. Through four seasons, beginning when he was 14 years old, the Italian product posted a 1.11 ERA across 81 innings, striking out 121 batters while also accumulating 81 saves.
