Two months into the season, the Toronto Blue Jays’ Florida Complex League team are one of just two affiliates who sit at the top of their respective standings.
After winning their first title last summer, the FCL Jays are off to a terrific start to begin 2026, posting a 12-3 record through their first 15 games. They sit first in the FCL North division with a four game cushion over the FCL Yankees, and their .800 winning percentage is the best in the entire league.
They have had some early standouts, such as Canadian Tim Piasentin (who hit his first career home run recently), Franklin Rojas, and Giacomo Taschin. However, we’ll look at three prospects on the team who could see some Single-A action before the end of the season.
Sam White
There are a couple reasons as to why Canadian first baseman Sam White will be called up to the Florida State League sooner rather than later. The most simple reason is that the Newmarket, Ontario product turned 22 years old on Saturday, the same day this article came out.
But his performance in the early goings of 2026 also put him in the conversation for a promotion. Over his first 56 professional plate appearances, the left-handed batter is slashing .289/.411/.556 with a team leading three home runs, as well as three doubles.
There is some swing and miss in his game, as White has 26.8 K% in his first 15 games, paired with a 14.3 BB%. It seems like sooner rather than later, White will get a look with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays.
Pascual Archila
If outfielder Pascual Archila earns a promotion this season, it would come near the end of the FCL season in late July. Right now, he’s on track to at least get a taste of Single-A, as he’s slashing .302/.500/.442 with a home run and three doubles in 61 plate appearances.
There are some concern about Archila’s strikeout rate, which currently sits at 29.5%, but he’s shown to have a terrific eye at the plate, walking in nearly a quarter of his plate appearances through his first 15 games.
Signed in the 2024 international free agency period, the 19-year-old outfielder made his professional debut in the Dominican Summer League in 2024, slashing .242/.415/.33 with two home runs in 161 plate appearances for a 124 wRC+. The following season, also in the DSL, saw the Venezuela product slashed .246/.433/.351 with two home runs in 232 plate appearances for a 122 wRC+.
Archila has shown to be a capable hitter at every level, but turned 19 in January. If he does end up in the FSL, it’ll be in August or early September. The strikeout rate will need to come down as he hits the “A” affiliates.
Miguel Pantoja
Miguel Pantoja is an intriguing pitching prospect in the system. Signed as an international free agent in the 2025 period, he had a rough 2025 season in the DSL, authoring a 5.79 ERA and 4.77 FIP in 32.2 innings pitched.
The 18-year-old righty is an entirely different pitcher through his first three outings. Pantoja is one of the youngest pitchers in the FCL, but has yet to give up a run in 10 innings of work. More impressively, the Mexican product has struck out 15 of the 39 batters he’s faced for a 38.5 K%, the third highest K% in the organization for any pitcher with 10 or more innings pitched. As expected, Nolan Perry sits first.
There are a few things going against Pantoja. For starters, there is just one 18-year-old currently pitching in Single-A, Kansas City Royals’ Kendry Chourio, who is widely considered as a top 100 prospect in baseball.
Pantoja’s stuff isn’t quite as impressive as Chourio’s, but Pantoja touches in the mid-90s with his fastball, along with three other pitches, the best of which being his slider. The other thing working against Pantoja has been his command, as he’s rocking a 12.8 BB% so far this season, after finishing 2025 with a 12 BB%.
Like Archila, if Pantoja appears in a Single-A game this season, it’d be near the end of August or early September, and that’s only if he can keep dominating in the FCL.
