Under the C’s – Alex De Jesus hits for the cycle in Vancouver Win

Get ready, Toronto. The Camel will be there before you know it. De Jesus had another monster game for the Vancouver Canadians on Tuesday night, as they travelled to Hillsboro, Oregon, to open a week-long series with the San Francisco-affiliated Hops. Alex hit for the cycle in just four at-bats, bringing home 7 RBIs in an 8-2 C’s victory.
If you exclusively see the Vancouver Canadians as a development program and just another stop for these prospects on the road to the big leagues, the progress that De Jesus has made in the High-A Northwest League has truly been a sight to behold, and can only get you excited for his future in a Blue Jays uniform.
However, if you’re a Vancouver Canadians fan, this is not good news.
At the rate the South Cambie Crusher is going, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before he gets the call and makes the jump to AA New Hampshire. With Vancouver already slotted into the Northwest League Championship Series this Fall, the C’s look poised to win it all, but what happens to this club without Alex De Jesus?
Vancouver has depth. We’ve seen it all season long, between Michael Turconi, Cade Doughty, Dasan and Devonte Brown, among others, but it’s the consistency that De Jesus brings to the table that is nearly unmatched in Vancouver. He sits 1st on the team in Home Runs, 1st in RBIs, and 2nd in hits behind Alan Roden. He’s been the catalyst of several walk-off victories this season, and he LOVES to hit the long ball. On the field, he’s cool as a cucumber on 3rd base, with good vision and a quick mitt.
With an ETA in Toronto of sometime in 2024, the Santo Domingo product still has plenty of room to grow, but the question remains… Does that growth happen in AA New Hampshire, or does it stay in Vancouver, and conclude with a Northwest League title?
