The Toronto Blue Jays have a trio of young announced starters set to take the mound against a powerhouse that’s on an OVER streak on the road.
The Blue Jays are +190 home underdogs (bet $100 to win $190) while the New York Yankees are -220 favorites (bet $220 to win $100) with a 10.5-run total in MLB odds for Thursday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The total has also gone OVER in the Yankees’ last nine games as away favorites.
The Blue Jays are 3-8 in their last 11 games against the Yankees as a home underdog, according to the OddsShark MLB Database, as well as 5-9 in their last 14 home games against their AL East counterparts.

As a heavy moneyline underdog, defined as +150 or more, Toronto is a value play since it is 8-10 in its last 18 games with those odds. They are also receiving a spark of late from rookie infielders Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Cavan Biggio and Bo Bichette. But Toronto is going into this series against the Yankees with starting pitchers for the first three games who have fewer than 200 innings’ experience in MLB.
Second-year left-hander Thomas Pannone (2-4, 5.98 ERA, 9.1 strikeouts per nine innings) will face the Yankees for the first time in his career on Thursday. The total has gone UNDER at online betting sites in four of his five starts this season. The Yankees counter with their most effective starter of late, Domingo German (14-2, 3.98 ERA, 9.9 SO/9). They are 7-3 in his last 10 away starts with the total finishing OVER seven times.
Friday, Sean Reid-Foley (1-2, 2.49 ERA, 7.5 SO/9) starts opposite Yankees left-hander J.A. Happ (9-6, 5.24 ERA, 7.1 SO/9), who is a former Blue Jay. Happ is struggling with a 6.04 ERA since the all-star break, and the total has gone OVER in seven of his last 10 starts when the Yankees were away favorites. They are, however, 9-1 in those contests.
Blue Jays rookie right-hander Jacob Waguespack (3-1, 4.00 ERA, 7.0 SO/9) is pitted against veteran righty Masahiro Tanaka (7-6, 4.93 ERA, 7.6 SO/9) on Saturday. The total has gone UNDER in five of Tanaka’s eight career away starts against the Blue Jays.
Neither team has named its starting pitcher for Sunday afternoon’s game.
The series is part of a 10-game Blue Jays homestand that also includes three-game sets against the Texas Rangers and the Seattle Mariners.
