Baseball is all about the mechanics and thrill of the game on the field. But sometimes, the best moments happen online when people or teams post something iconic.
Just like other sports, baseball thrives when people capture and share their thoughts on specific moments they want to remember. So, here’s a list of seven tweets that sum up what happened in MLB this past week.
The New York Mets broadcast booth hot dog shenanigans
During the Mets’ road trip to Denver, Colorado, for a three-game series against the Rockies, the team’s broadcast booth decided to try the famous Glizzilla for themselves.
For reference, Glizzilla is 23 inches long and is one of the newest food offerings at Coors Field. To showcase the sheer length of the hot dog, broadcaster Keith Hernandez and on-field reporter Steve Gelbs ate it from opposite ends. This moment ended up resembling the iconic scene from the movie, Lady and the Tramp, where two dogs shared the spaghetti in a rather romantic fashion. It didn’t take long for the Mets and the larger MLB X community to meme-ify this moment, which will then most likely be etched into baseball fans’ brains rent-free.
The thing about rookie Spencer Jones’s batting stance
In case you didn’t know, the New York Yankees recently called up Spencer Jones, a notable outfield prospect within their farm system, for this weekend’s series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
But the thing that caught baseball fans’ eyes was the unique batting stance that almost made him look like someone who hadn’t hit before. The Yankees have had hitters with more recognizable batting stances (i.e., Cody Bellinger, Gleyber Torres, Aaron Judge and more), and Jones is continuing that tradition by setting himself apart early on.
P.S. Some fans have also said Jones also looks like the white version of Shohei Ohtani, and you won’t be able to unsee the resemblance.
woah there mama i got transported into a baseball game
Fans created a masterpiece with foam fingers
During an earlier game at Oracle Park this month, a couple of fans got to work creating their own artwork that connected two levels. Whether it’s a low-scoring or high-scoring game, building something together at a stadium can bring more entertainment for everyone involved.

The Toronto Blue Jays finally introduced special quesadillas to honour Kazuma Okamoto
Once Kazuma Okamoto, third baseman for the Blue Jays, revealed that one of his pregame snacks is a cheesy quesadilla, all signs pointed to creating a new food item in Toronto. And that’s what the Blue Jays did after seeing Okamoto go on a tear for a few games last week.
To pay tribute to Okamoto’s hot streak, the Blue Jays even combined his first name with quesadilla to name their new offering Kaza-dilla. Initially, the Blue Jays were undefeated after launching this item, but fell to Jose Soriano of the Los Angeles Angels. But Okamoto has continued his hitting streak despite Toronto’s loss, proving that launching a new food item in his honour wasn’t in vain.

The Baltimore Orioles fans are going through it this year
A few teams in the American League are massively underperforming this year, and the Orioles haven’t been the exception.
On paper, Baltimore has one of the strongest rosters in the AL East, featuring heavy hitters like Pete Alonso and Gunnar Henderson and a bolstered pitching staff featuring Shane Baz and Trevor Rogers. However, the Orioles haven’t clicked all at the same time consistently for the team so far, placing fourth in the division. The sense of cynicism began to grow as the team scuffles, and while some fans are choosing optimism, others are questioning why they should even believe in the first place. Hence, one of the teachers rooting for the Orioles faced a critical thinking challenge from his students regarding his belief.
Perhaps time will prove him right, but for now, the outlook for the Orioles remains murky at best.
I challenge the students to be critical thinkers. And now they’ve challenged me to be one too…
Elmo’s fandom betrayal created an online controversy
Elmo recently appeared in the Philadelphia Phillies’ broadcast booth for a short interview and revealed that he loves the Phillies. It’s not the wildest notion since Elmo’s red and the Phillies also identify with the colour red.
The real “problem” for the online baseball community was that Elmo associated himself with the New York Mets not too long ago. The Mets fans didn’t shy away from showing their disappointment with Elmo’s allegiance switch and effectively labelled him as a traitor. Who knows which team Elmo will start loving after the Phillies?
they switch up so quick.

The Cleveland Guardians sent a personalized tweet as a tribute to the Australian
Give to the Guardians’ social media staff: they crushed this one.
The Guardians called up one of their better infield prospects, Travis Bazzana, earlier this month. Because there aren’t many Australian players in MLB, that’s been Bazzana’s whole thing since he joined the big leagues. He even chose “Down Under” as his walk-up song as a nod to his homeland.
Naturally, when he hit his first-ever major league home run, the Guardians thought of a genius idea to show off his homer to Australian fans: they flipped the home run clip upside down, quite literally. What a magical moment for Bazzana and what an incredible tweet from Cleveland.
