Schneider found consistent playing time out of the gate and boasted a .813 OPS by the end of April. Playing an array of positions, Schneider made a huge statement early with a two-run shot during the Houston Astros series after the Jays were no-hit the day before, smashing a shot to deep left centre off closer Josh header that helped the Jays beat the AL West squad. He was then ironically sat the next day &#8211; much to the chagrin of Jays fans &#8211; as the Jays continued to follow a set gameplan for Schneider.

By season&#8217;s end, Schneider authored a .191/.282/.343 slash line with 13 home runs and a .625 OPS. He amassed a 78 OPS+, struck out 144 times compared to 47 walks, and had bouts of inconsistency late in the season, which saw him sit on the bench more toward the end of the campaign compared to the start of the year. This inconsistency at the plate is not new for Schneider, as he also dealt with a slump late in the 2023 season when pitchers started to adjust to the Jays hitter, and it raised its head again this season that had fans thinking a stint in the minor leagues might be in order to right the ship.
For the New Jersey product, one of his biggest strengths was his versatility &#8211; which boded well for the squad after the Jays designated utility man Cavan Biggio halfway through the year.
Defensively, he made 73 starts in left field and 33 starts at second base, collecting a -2 DRS between both spots to the tune of a .988 and 1.000 fielding percentage respectively. With the Jays not bringing back Whit Merrifield for the 2024 season, the Jays used Schneider in the corner outfield spot in his place &#8211; with the 25-year-old accumulating three assists by year-end.
He took better routes to the ball as the season wore on and possesses an average arm but he got the job done well called upon, making some impressive plays due to the noted plus athleticism. At the plate, Schenider is a bit of a reverse splits kind of batter, boasting better numbers from a home run perspective from right-handed pitchers but has better slugging numbers against southpaws, making a platoon of him and &#8220;insert Jays prospect here&#8221; tough to imagine at the second base spot.
Looking ahead, the biggest thing for Schneider will be finding some consistency at the plate to keep his slash line numbers in check as the season wears on.
The club asked him to work on his motions in the outfield heading into the 2024 season and he was able to accomplish that from a defensive standpoint but now his bat needs to hold pace to match production, especially since the Jays possess a handful of internal prospects fighting for spots at second base.
He possesses the plus power that this Jays squad needs heading into next season but sporting a sub-.200 average is going to be tough to support at the big league level, especially if the Jays do some heavy lifting this offseason combined with the internal prospects fighting for playing time as well.
At this time, Schneider&#8217;s spot on the 2025 roster is not guaranteed and a competition in Spring Training will likely be in play, especially if the Jays acquire some veteran players this offseason.
If the right-handed batter can continue to put together strong at-bats from the get-go, he stands a better chance of making the Opening Day roster, but players like Ernie Clement, Spencer Horwitz, Joey Loperfido, Will Wagner, Addison Barger, and Leo Jimenez are in the same boat &#8211; making things difficult for Schneider heading into a new season.
