The Blue Jays have been active on the free agent market so far this offseason, but haven’t yet swung a major trade. They acquired reliever Chase Lee from the Detroit Tigers and outside of that move, the Jays have stood pat on the trade front outside of some minor deals.
Here are three dream targets if the front office is willing to empty the farm system to complete a blockbuster.

1: Mason Miller – RHP

The San Diego Padres have reportedly been listening to offers for Miller, who they just acquired at the 2025 trade deadline from the Athletics for a gaudy prospect package headlined by Leo De Vries.
The Blue Jays should do their due diligence if Miller is available. His fastball averages 101.2 mph, and he struck out a ridiculous 44.4% of the batters he faced last season. He ranked in the 100th percentile for expected batting average against and whiff rate. He’s unquestionably the most dominant closer in baseball right now.
Of course, acquiring Miller – who is under team control through 2029 – would cost a king’s ransom. But this is a list of dream targets ,and he fits the bill.

2: Tarik Skubal – LHP

The Detroit Tigers have been listening on Skubal with the lefty expected to sign a record-setting deal after the 2026 season.
Skubal needs little introduction. He just won his second straight AL Cy Young Award after striking out 241 batters with a 2.21 ERA and 0.891 WHIP. His 7.30 strikeout-to-walk rate led the entire league. Skubal is authoring one of the most impressive peaks we’ve ever seen for a starter pitcher.
Trading for Skubal would be worth whatever it costs in prospect capital. He’d make the Blue Jays the favourites to win the 2026 World Series, and they’d have a whole year to sell him on Toronto as his long-term home.

3: José Ramirez – 3B

José Ramirez of the Cleveland Guardians might go down as the best third baseman in MLB history when it’s all said and done — he’s as dreamy a target as there is.
The switch-hitter is a seven-time All-Star with a career .857 OPS (131 OPS+) on an absolute bargain of a contract. He finished third in AL MVP voting in 2025 after hitting 30 home runs with 40 stolen bases for the second straight year. He’s done all this while playing consistently great defense.
Ramirez is the rare star Cleveland can afford to keep. Still, the Guardians never shy away from dealing away their players and have a great relationship with the Blue Jays’ current front office brass. It’s not crazy to think this one could happen eventually and the Jays were knocking on the door years ago before he extending his stay with Cleveland.
