Things worth mentioning…

• J.A. Happ, like I said, was very good today. The wheels started to fall off a little bit in the sixth inning as the Phillies teed off on a couple balls and the defence made a couple of mistakes, but, otherwise, Happ was dominant. He went six-and-two-thirds surrendering just two earned runs while striking out eight. The Jays got a quality start from each of their starters this weekend which played a huuuuuuuge role in the series win. Good starting pitching isn’t something we’ve had much of this year.
• Dwight Smith Jr. came up with the bases loaded in a 2-0 game and came up with a huge hit. He went up 3-0 in the count, took two strikes, and then shortened his swing and ripped a ball down the third base line for a double. It was a nice, veteran at-bat for the rookie, which is a pleasant sight.
• The bullpen was also good today. That’ll happen when the starters are good and the ‘pen arms aren’t so taxed. Seung-hwan Oh tosses a scoreless inning-and-a-third and then Ryan Tepera came in for the save. It was a lot less tense than his last save on Friday night.
