The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Texas Rangers. It sounds so natural. It rolls off the tongue. Everything is as it should be.

Things worth mentioning…

  • Marco Estrada was fiiiiiiire tonight. He ran into a little trouble in the sixth inning after allowing a solo bomb to Shin Soo Choo but managed to strand the bases loaded. Otherwise, Estrada was untouchable. He controlled the zone, fooled the Rangers with a combination of speed, and painted the corners, looking the vintage ACEstrada we know and love. I have so many good memories of that dude tossing gems in Texas it just feels natural.
  • The bullpen was not exactly fire tonight. Aaron Loup and Seung-hawn Oh allowed Texas to climb back into the game with a four-run seventh inning, Ryan Tepera allowed a hit but had a scoreless eighth, and Roberto Osuna allowed two hits but closed the game in the ninth. It was a lot more stressful than it needed to be.
  • The Jays managed to score eight runs despite leaving eight runners on base. Russell Martin drove three runs in with a clutch bases loaded single and a solo homer, Yangervis Solarte had a bomb of his own, and Devon Travis got himself off the schnide with a two-for-five game.
  • Randal Grichuk is having himself a hell of a time at the plate so far this season. He went zero-for-four with a strikeout but did hit the ball hard a few times. The fact he’s squaring up on the ball is a good thing, but his plate discipline makes Kevin Pillar look patient. Speaking of Pillar, he put up a goose egg in five at bats.
  • But hey, no need to dwell on negatives. Fuck Texas.
