The Toronto Blue Jays enter Wednesday afternoon’s game looking for their ninth sweep of the season.
After two consecutive series losses in which their offence was next to invisible, the bats have broken out in a big way, winning Monday’s game 15-1 and Tuesday’s game 10-4.
The Jays look to build off the momentum, as they have an opportunity to sweep their ninth series of the season. Starting for the Blue Jays is Colorado-native Kevin Gausman. His last turn out on Friday wasn’t great, as Gausman gave up five earned runs in six innings of work in what turned out to be a loss. Even with that game, Gausman has a 2.74 ERA and 3.60 FIP in 42.2 innings pitched since June 26’s start.
Before Tuesday’s game, the Blue Jays selected Buddy Kennedy’s contract, and the utility infielder will make his Blue Jays debut in the sixth spot. With lefty Kyle Freeland on the mound for the Rockies, Davis Schneider will lead off, followed by Ernie Clement and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The middle of their lineup is comprised of Bo Bichette, Ty France, and Kennedy.
After hitting five home runs in 13 games (as well as two robbed home runs), Lukes is in the lineup batting seventh despite being a left-handed bat. Alejandro Kirk and Daulton Varsho both get the day off, meaning Tyler Heineman and Myles Straw will fill in at catcher and centre field, respectively.
Let’s set up Wednesday’s series finale!
