Friday’s game is exactly what the Toronto Blue Jays needed.
They were embarrassed at Rogers Centre on Opening Day, giving up six home runs and 12 earned runs. However, the Jays scored eight runs of their own in the second game of the season as they blew out the Baltimore Orioles 8-2. Moreover, one of those innings, the bottom of the fourth, saw the Blue Jays pile up five runs. That didn’t happen a whole lot last season.
Brendon Little left Friday’s game with an apparent injury after throwing 11 pitches and striking out two batters. The left-handed pitcher iss the de facto high-leverage lefty in the Jays’ pen, and it would be a sizable blow if he misses any significant time. Thankfully, that doesn’t appear to be the case as  Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith reported that Little left with a left lat cramp and could pitch on Saturday.
Davis Schneider made his season debut on Friday, drawing a walk in a pinch-hitting scenario, which was his only plate appearance. He’ll get the start in left field today and bat seventh. Ernie Clement also pinch hit, hitting a double to drive in two runs. He also starts today and is batting eighth in the lineup and playing third base. For the first time in his big league career, Alan Roden sits on the bench, but expect him to pinch-hit if the Jays need a left-handed batter.
Max Scherzer makes his Blue Jays debut and is slated for 80 pitches in this game. It’ll be fun to see how he performs.
Let’s set up the third Blue Jays game of the season!
