What a week it was in the Toronto Blue Jays’ farm system.
This is the May 9-11 edition of the Minor League Report, where we look at the past three games for each of the Blue Jays’ affiliates. We’ll look at the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, High-A Vancouver Canadians, Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, and FCL Jays in this article.
Let’s take a look at the week that was!

Bisons dropped five of six to Saints

The Buffalo Bisons’ only win against the St. Paul Saints came on Friday, as they smashed them 17-3. Alan Roden went 4-5, hitting a home run and driving in five. Orelvis Martinez, Will Wagner, and Will Robertson all had home runs. Roden, Josh Rivera, Riley Tirotta, and Joey Loperfido all hit doubles, as the Bisons combined for 19 hits. Andrew Bash made the start, pitching three and one-third innings with three strikeouts. Justin Bruihl pitched two scoreless innings, Kevin Gowdy pitched an inning and two-thirds with two earned runs, and Tommy Nance pitched two scoreless innings.
There was far less scoring on Saturday, as the Saints defeated the Bisons 2-1. Rainer Nunez hit his second double of the season, while Roden hit a triple. Pitching wasn’t bad, as Lazaro Estrada went four innings with three walks and five strikeouts. Paxton Schultz gave up two earned runs in three innings pitched, and Jimmy Burnette pitched a scoreless inning.
The Bisons lost another one-run game on Sunday, falling 3-2 in the series finale. Will Robertson and Damiano Palmegiani each hit a double, as Roden and Palmegiani both had two-hit games. Easton Lucas had a tough start, giving up three earned runs, three walks, and striking out five in three and two-thirds innings. Gowdy, Jacob Barnes, Bruihl, and Eric Pardinho all pitched scoreless outings, the last two striking out two batters in an inning of work.
This week, the Bisons return home to host the Worcester Red Sox for a six-game series.

Rain, rain, go away, please let the Fisher Cats play

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats only played on three days this past week, getting five games in due to two doubleheaders. The second of which was on Saturday, with the Jays’ Double-A team dropping the first game 7-1. RJ Schreck hit his third home run of the season, and Jace Bohrofen hit a double, two of the Fisher Cats’ five hits. Ryan Watson started the game, pitching five innings with six runs allowed, only three were earned. Alex Amalfi pitched two innings, walking and striking out three and giving up an earned run.
Thankfully, the Fisher Cats got back in the win column in the second game of the doubleheader, winning that game 5-1. Schreck hit his second home run of the day, with both Ryan McCarty and Yohendrick Pinango hitting doubles. Schreck, Pinango, and McCarty each had three-hit games. Michael Dominguez made the start, striking out four in three innings of work. Hunter Gregory struck out two in three innings to drop his season ERA to 0.56.
The Fisher Cats took the series with a 7-2 win on Sunday. Pinango hit his fourth home run of the season, and Dasan Brown hit his first of the season. Gabriel Martinez hit a double, and Peyton Williams hit his fourth double of the season. Devereaux Harrison made the start, giving up two earned runs in six innings of work. Geison Urbaez, Conor Larkin, and Ryan Jennings combined for three scoreless innings.
This week, the Fisher Cats travel to Reading to face the Fightin Phils for a six-game series.

Canadians lose series finale, dropping four of six

On Friday, the Vancouver Canadians blew out Spokane 10-1. Three 2024 draftees, Sean Keys, Eddie Micheletti Jr., and Aaron Parker, all hit home runs, with Parker also hitting a triple and posting a three-hit game. Adrian Pinto and Jackson Hornung each had two hits. Grant Rogers made the start, going five innings without giving up an earned run and striking out seven. Pat Gallagher struck out two in his two innings of work to drop his season ERA to 1.04.
Spokane fired back with a 5-4 win on Saturday. Arjun Nimmala hit his seventh home run of the season, but that’s the only extra-base hit the Canadians mustered in this game. Jackson Wentworth pitched five and two-thirds innings, giving up 10 hits and four earned runs. Bo Bonds also gave up an earned run in this outing, while Yondrei Rojas struck out a batter in his inning of work.
On Sunday, the Canadians had a chance to split the series, but were walked off in the 10th to fall 4-3. Nimmala hit his ninth double of the season, and Micheletti Jr. hit his fifth double, two of the Canadians’ eight hits. Juaron Watts-Brown had a terrific start, striking out 10 and giving up two hits in six innings of work. J.J. Sanchez gave up two earned runs in two-thirds of an inning pitched, and Jonathan Todd gave up an earned run in his third of an inning. Chay Yeager blew a save, but pitched two innings with two strikeouts. Kai Peterson was tagged with the loss, giving up an unearned run.
After the week ended, Adrian Pinto was named the Northwest League Player of the Week, going 7-15 with three home runs. The Canadians return to Nat Bailey on Tuesday, hosting the Everett AquaSox for a six-game series.

D-Jays are on a five-game win streak

As has been the case throughout the season, the Dunedin Blue Jays won Friday’s game in blowout fashion, defeating the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels  9-1. Tucker Toman hit the only extra-base hit for the D-Jays in this one, which is odd because the D-Jays had 16 hits. Canadian Bryce Arnold was the only player with a three-hit game. Khal Stephen pitched five and two-thirds innings with one earned run allowed and five strikeouts. Bennett Flynn, Christian Mracna, and Colby Martin all pitched scoreless outings to end the game.
Gilberto Batista had a strong start in the D-Jays 3-0 win on Saturday, throwing five scoreless innings with nine strikeouts and four hits allowed. Nate LaRue, Johan Simon, and Javen Coleman all threw scoreless outings, with the latter striking out the side in order. Jean Joseph and Devonte Brown each hit a single in this game, with the latter driving in all three runs.
The D-Jays made it a five-game win streak with a 7-4 victory on Sunday. Joseph hit his fourth home run of the season, while Manuel Beltre hit his first triple of the year. Each player had a multi-hit game. Adam Kloffenstein made the start in a rehab appearance, pitching four innings and allowing three runs, none of which were earned. Justin Kelly also pitched in a rehab appearance, pitching two innings. Austin Cates picked up the save, striking out four and allowing an earned run in three innings of work.
After a strong start on Saturday, Gilberto Batista was named the Florida State League pitcher of the week. The D-Jays return home to host the Bradenton Marauders for a six-game series starting Tuesday.

FCL Blue Jays split with FCL Yankees

The Florida Complex League Jays have played two games since the latest Minor League Report. They defeated the FCL Yankees 6-5 on Friday. Dariel Ramon hit a double and a triple, while David Beckles hit the first home run of the season for the team. Landen Maroduis made the start, pitching three innings with three strikeouts. Erik Swanson made a rehab appearance, giving up two earned runs without getting an out. Ryan Burr also pitched in this game, striking out three in an inning and two-thirds.
Unfortunately, the FCL Jays were unable to beat the Yankees on Saturday, falling 4-3. Beckles hit a double and two singles, while Juan Rosas hit his third double of the season off Josh Tiedemann, no relation to Ricky. Silvano Hechavarria made the start, giving up two earned runs and striking out four in four innings of work. Johnny King IV made his professional debut, striking out three and walking two in two innings of work. Jack Eshleman gave up two earned runs in two-thirds of an inning.
Like the Vancouver Canadians and Dunedin Blue Jays, the FCL Jays had a player of the week, as David Beckles earned the nod for the Florida Complex League. The FCL Jays make up Monday’s rainout on Tuesday, playing a doubleheader against the FCL Phillies.
