Arjun Nimmala has arrived.
This is the April 25-27 edition of the Minor League Report, where we look at the past three games for each of the Blue Jays’ affiliates. This week will focus on the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, High-A Vancouver Canadians, and the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays.
Let’s take a week that was!

Bisons won five of seven against Red Wings

Heading into Friday’s game, the Buffalo Bisons had taken three of four against the Rochester Red Wings and were on a three-game win streak. That was snapped on Friday, though, as they fell 8-1. Davis Schneider hit a double and drove in the Bisons’ only run. Easton Lucas had a solid start, giving up two earned runs in five and one-third innings. Kevin Gowdy, Justin Bruihl, and Braydon Fisher all gave up at least a run in relief.
They got back in the win column on Saturday, defeating the Red Wings 4-3 thanks to a big bottom of the sixth. Schneider hit another double, as did Josh Rivera, Joey Loperfido, and Michael Stefanic. Loperfido had three hits in the game, while Orelvis Martínez hit two singles. Trenton Wallace made the start, giving up two earned runs in four innings of work, striking out seven. Andrew Bash picked up the win, striking out three and allowing an earned run in four innings of work. Tommy Nance picked up his first save of the season.
Sunday’s game was a low-scoring affair, as they defeated the Red Wings 2-0. Schneider hit another double, as did Martínez and Christian Bethancourt. Stefanic walked three times in this game as well. Jake Bloss had a strong start, pitching four and one-third scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Jimmy Burnette registered the win, Eric Pardinho pitched another scoreless inning, and Jacob Barnes picked up the save.
This coming week, the Bisons head to Iowa to face the Cubs for a six-game series

Fisher Cats played low-scoring games

Coming into Friday’s game, the Fisher Cats were 0-4 in the series against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. That changed on Friday, though, as they won that game 5-0 in six innings. All five runs came in the top of the sixth, as Eddinson Paulino and Peyton Williams each hit a double, while Paulino and Jay Harry had multi-hit games. Rafael Sánchez pitched all six innings for the Fisher Cats, striking out five to bring his season ERA to 1.29. Triple-A is right in front of the Cuban righty.
The Fisher Cats followed up a 5-0 win with a 1-0 win. Alex De Jesus, Yohendrick Piñango, and Harry hit doubles in this game, with Piñango driving in the only run. Ryan Watson made the start, striking out six in six scoreless innings to bring his season ERA to 1.64. Ryan Jennings pitched two scoreless innings, and Hunter Gregory picked up the save.
Their mini-win streak ended on Sunday, as they fell 2-1. The Fisher Cats had six hits in this game from Harry, Williams, Gabriel Martinez, Charles McAdoo, and two from Jacob Sharp. Martinez walked twice. Michael Dominguez pitched three innings, giving up one earned run and striking out three. Bobby Milacki also pitched three innings, giving up an earned run and striking out three. Conor Larkin and Johnathan Lavallee both pitched a scoreless inning.
This week, the Fisher Cats return to Manchester, New Hampshire, to face off against the Portland Sea Dogs.

Canadians are the Arjun Nimmala show

Coming into Friday’s game, the Canadians had dropped two of three to the Everett AquaSox. They lost their third game of the series that game, falling 12-3. Arjun Nimmala hit his third home run of the season, and Jacob Wetzel hit a double, while both of them and Aaron Parker had multi-hit days. Pitching wasn’t great, though, as Kevin Miranda gave up seven earned runs in two and two-thirds innings of work. Edinson Batista gave up two earned runs in his outing, and Irv Carter gave up three earned runs in a third of an inning of work. Julio Ortiz and Aaron Munson each pitched scoreless outings.
The Canadians got back in the win column on Saturday, smashing the AquaSox 10-1. Nimmala hit another home run, as did Sean Keys, Cutter Coffey, and Carter Cunningham. Coffey also hit a double, one of three players with a multi-hit game. Fernando Pérez had a good start, striking out four in four innings of work with an earned run given up. Chay Yeager struck out four in two innings of work, and Nate Garkow struck out three in three innings of work.
Sunday’s game saw the Canadians win 9-8 in extra innings to earn the series split. A big reason for that was their four-run top of the ninth. Nimmala, again, hit a home run, while Coffey hit two doubles, and Victor Arias, Brennan Orf, and Eddie Micheletti Jr. hit doubles. Grant Rogers didn’t have his usual strong start, giving up five earned runs in four and one-third innings of work. Jonathan Todd and J.J. Sanchez each pitched scoreless outings, while Bo Bonds gave up three earned runs in his inning and two-thirds of work. Kai Peterson picked up the win with a blown save.
This week, the Canadians play their second series in Vancouver, hosting the Hillsboro Hops for a six-game series.

D-Jays on a three-game win streak

The Dunedin Blue Jays had won two of three games heading into Friday, and they kept up their winning ways the rest of the week. First up was a 4-2 victory on Friday, with Jean Joseph hitting a double. He was one of three players with a multi-hit game, as Peyton Powell and Edward Duran each hit two singles. Trey Yesavage made the start, striking out 10 and allowing two earned runs in four and two-thirds innings pitched. Gage Stanifer picked up his fourth win, striking out a batter in four scoreless innings.
On Saturday, the D-Jays won 5-1, with Canadian Sam Shaw hitting his second home run of the season. He had a two-hit game, as did Duran for the second consecutive game. Colby Holcombe made the start, striking out six in five innings of scoreless work. Daniel Guerra struck out two and gave up an earned run in three innings of work, while Colby Martin pitched a clean inning.
With an 8-5 win on Sunday, the D-Jays took five of six from the Tampa Tarpons. Sunday’s game saw Yeuni Muñoz hit his fifth home run of the season, as well as a double. Brock Tibbits hit a double and a triple in a three-hit game, while J.R. Freethy also hit a triple. Tucker Toman and Braden Barry also had two hits in the game. Starting the game for the D-Jays was Khal Stephen, who gave up three earned runs and four walks in three and two-thirds innings. The bullpen had a quiet game, with Christian Mracna picking up the save.
This week, the D-Jays play in Dunedin and host the Clearwater Threshers.
