It’s Yohendrick Pinango’s world, and we’re all just living in it.
This is the May 13-15 edition of the Minor League Report, where we look at the past three games for each of the Blue Jays’ affiliates. We’ll look at the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, High-A Vancouver Canadians, Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, and FCL Jays in this article.
Let’s take a look at the week that was!

Bisons drop two of three to start the week

The Bisons dropped their first game of the week, losing 10-7. There were some positives from this game, as Orelvis Martinez, Alan Roden, and Davis Schneider all hit home runs. Anders Tolhurst had a strong start, pitching five innings, giving up just one earned run. Josh Walker, Jimmy Burnette, and Eric Pardinho all had scoreless outings, but Jacob Barnes and Tommy Nance didn’t. Barnes gave up four earned runs in an inning, and Nance gave up five in a third of an inning.
Wednesday’s game didn’t go much better, as the Bisons fell 8-4. Schneider and Joey Loperfido hit home runs, while Phil Clarke hit his first double of the season in Triple-A. Trenton Wallace had a strong start, going four innings with five strikeouts and no earned runs. Erik Swanson and Ryan Burr gave up four and two runs respectively on their rehab assignment.
The Bisons got back in the win column thanks to a 12-1 victory on Thursday. Riley Tirotta and Rainer Nunez hit home runs, while Schneider hit a triple and Clarke hit a double. The latter had a three-hit game. Lazaro Estrada had a strong start, pitching six innings with one earned run and five strikeouts. Pardinho, Justin Bruihl, and Paxton Schultz all pitched a scoreless inning.

Fisher Cats lost two close games

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats lost a pair of one-run games. On Wednesday, they fell 2-1, with their lone run coming thanks to Yohendrick Pinango’s fifth home run of the season, as well as his second in as many games. CJ Van Eyk had a strong start, pitching six innings with two runs (neither earned), while striking out five. Ryan Jennings and Hunter Gregory each pitched scoreless innings, with the latter dropping his season ERA to 0.53.
Thursday’s game was another one-run game, although the Fisher Cats lost this one 11-10. Pinango hit his third home run in the past three games and had a three-hit game. Jay Harry hit his first Double-A home run, and Ryan McCarty had a three-hit game. Devonte Brown, RJ Schreck, and Harry hit doubles.
Pitching wasn’t as strong. Rafael Sanchez had a tough start, giving up five earned runs in two-thirds of an inning. Alex Amalfi struck out five and gave up an earned run in his three and one-third innings of work. Garyson Thurman gave up an earned run in two innings of work, Johnathan Lavallee gave up three earned runs in an inning of work, and Justin Kelly was tagged with the loss thanks to an earned run in the bottom of the ninth.

Canadians win two of three

The Vancouver Canadians defeated the Everett AquaSox 9-4 on Tuesday. Jackson Hornung hit the team’s lone home run, as Sean Keys and Arjun Nimmala each hit doubles. Cutter Coffey had a three-hit performance. Kevin Miranda made the start, giving up one earned run in five innings of work. Aaron Munson pitched two scoreless innings, and Nate Garkow allowed two earned runs in two-thirds of an inning. J.J. Sanchez got the final four outs, striking out two batters.
They followed that up with a 4-0 win on Wednesday to move their season record to 17-18. There were no home runs or extra-base hits in this game, but Hornung had two of the six hits, and Nimmala drove in two. Fernando Perez had a great start, striking out seven and not allowing a run in five and a third innings pitched. Pat Gallagher struck out two in his outing, as did Yondrei Rojas. Bo Bonds pitched a clean inning with a strikeout.
The brief two-game win streak was snapped on Thursday, as the Canadians fell 5-4. Nick Goodwin hit the team’s only extra-base hit (a double), while Gabriel Martinez had a two-hit game. Grant Rogers had a rough start (by his standard), giving up two earned runs in four and two-thirds innings. Kai Peterson struck out four in two and one-third innings, and Julio Ortiz pitched a clean inning.

D-Jays win streak snapped

The Dunedin Blue Jays continue to roll, winning two of the first three games against the Bradenton Marauders. Tuesday’s game was an 11-3 victory, with Yhoangel Aponte hitting the lone home run. Peyton Powell, Jean Joseph, Sam Shaw, Aponte, and Jacob Lojewski each hit a double. Trey Yesavage started the game, allowing two earned runs and striking out seven in five innings of work.
