The prospect we’ll look at today has been one of the best hitters in the Blue Jays farm system this season.
This is Blue Jays Nation’s annual Mid-Season top prospect list, where we’ll look at the 35 best prospects in the Blue Jays system. We’ll look at the player’s stats, my observations, and other publication’s scouting reports if available.
Let’s take a look at our 34th-best prospect, Victor Arias.
Getting to know Victor Arias…
Position: Outfield
Bats: Left
Born: August 24, 2003
Acquired: 2021 International Free Agency
Previous ranking: Not ranked
Victor Arias debuted in the Jays organization in the summer of 2021 with the Dominican Summer League Jays, slashing .248/.388/.339 with two home runs in 134 plate appearances, along with a 17.9 BB% and a 23.9 K%.
The following season at the same level, he slashed .315/.448/.481 with no home runs in 67 plate appearances, while his K% increased to 29.9 K% and his BB% dropped to 16.4%. Moving stateside to begin the 2023 season, Arias slashed .222/.395/.393 with four home runs in 152 plate appearances with the Florida Complex League Jays, along with a cup of coffee in Single-A and Double-A, hitting a home run with the Dunedin Blue Jays in one of his 13 plate appearances.
Arias started the 2024 season in Dunedin and had his best season yet, slashing .279/.386/.454 with eight home runs in 332 plate appearances, along with a 10.8 BB% and a 21.7 K% for a 142 wRC+. Without question, he was the best hitter for the Dunedin Blue Jays, and he earned a call-up to High-A Vancouver at the end of July.
In his brief tenure with Vancouver, Arias is slashing .324/.425/.353 with no homers (one double) in 40 plate appearances, along with a higher BB% (15%) than K% (12.5%) for a 130 wRC+.
Although he only stands at 5’11”, Arias has pop in his bat, producing impressive exit velocities and taking a step forward with his power numbers in 2024. Moreover, he has good contact rates paired with a good idea at the plate, rarely chasing pitches off it. His defensive home will likely be a corner outfield.
