Let’s look at our 25th-best prospect, Cutter Coffey!
<h2>Getting to know Cutter Coffey…</h2>
Position: Third base/Shortstop
Bats: Right
Born: May 21, 2004
Acquired: Trade with Red Sox
Previous ranking: Not ranked
Cutter Coffey was selected in the second round of the 2022 draft by the Boston Red Sox and slashed .125/.300/.156 in the Florida Complex League in the season&#8217;s final few months. Adjusting to the professional game as a prep draftee takes time, and he had a slightly better 2023 in Single-A, slashing .226/.341/.348 with six home runs in 349 plate appearances.
Towards the end of the season, Coffey was called up to High-A, where he slashed .136/.253/.167 with no home runs in 79 plate appearances. Starting the 2024 season with the Red Sox’s High-A team, the infielder slashed .238/.321/.463 with 14 home runs in 271 plate appearances, along with a 10.3 BB% and a 24 K% for a 121 wRC+. It’s by far the best he’s looked in his professional career.
Coffey, Eddinson Paulino, and Gilberto Batista were traded to the Blue Jays before the trade deadline in exchange for Danny Jansen. Since joining the Jays organization, Coffey is slashing .156/.304/.250 with one home run in 79 plate appearances, a 15.2 BB%, and a 26.6 K% for a 68 wRC+.

The 20-year-old is ranked as MLB Pipeline’s 23rd-best Blue Jays prospect. The power is his best attribute, as he is strong and pulls a lot of pitches. However, the approach is questionable, and he may never hit for a high average while striking out quite a bit. He has a strong arm (he reached 94 mph with a fastball in high school), which will help him stay at third base. He may be stuck as a utility man if the hit tool doesn&#8217;t improve.
