We’ll look at Otto López in this article.
<h2>Getting to know Otto López…</h2>
Position: Second base/third base/shortstop/centre field/left field
Bats: Right
Born: October 1, 1998
Acquired: 2016 International Free Agency
Current Team:  Triple-A Buffalo (60-day injured list)
Previous Ranking:  12
Last season in triple-A, López slashed .297/.378/.415 with three homers in 391 plate appearances for a 114 wRC+. He had started off the season cold, but eventually slashed .371/.435/.476 with a 9.4 BB% and a 14.1 K% in his last 191 plate appearances.
This year, the 24-year-old utility player started the season cold, and never recovered like he did last season. Moreover, his season is all but over, as he was added to the Blue Jays 60-day injured list to take him off the 40-man roster.
With Buffalo this season, López is slashing .251/.307/.330 with two homers in 330 plate appearances. Furthermore, his BB% decreased from 10.5% to 6.7%, while his K% increased from 15.6% to 16.7%.

López’s best tool is his speed, as he was able to nab 12 bases in 16 attempts. It also allows the 24-year-old to cover a lot of ground in centre field, even if his arm isn’t the strongest. In terms of the bat, he’s definitely a hit-for-average over power guy, as when he’s at his best, he can hit in the high .200s. In fact, López has limited power, but has a line drive approach.
The utility player fell out of MLB Pipeline’s Top 30, but when he’s at his best, he’s a good hitting utility player that will nab bases. Let’s just hope he can find his 2022-form once returning from the injured list.
