The summer of Arjun Nimmala continues.
On Tuesday, the 18-year-old shortstop delivered the first four-hit performance of his young professional career, going 4-for-5 with a pair of infield singles and runs batted for single-A Dunedin. The Toronto Blue Jays’ minor-league affiliate secured a 6-4 victory over the Clearwater Threshers, the Philadelphia Phillies’ single-A club.
Nimmala recorded his first career three-hit game on Aug. 1, and he earned his second a few weeks later on Aug. 14. The 20th-overall selection from last year’s draft has multi-hit performances in six of his 13 games this month, hitting .328 with 11 RBIs.
The right-handed-hitting infielder produced the first of his four hits in the top half of the first inning, pulling a hard-hit double — which came off his bat at 101.1 m.p.h. — into the left-field corner to open the scoring. Shortly after, he crossed home plate following a double from 2024 sixth-rounder Aaron Parker, who’s slugging .531 in 14 games since joining the Blue Jays organization.
Nimmala added a trio of singles to cap off his memorable night, two of which never left the infield.
The Tampa, Fla., native has been on an absolute tear since returning from the Complex League after struggling mightily out of the gate. Over his last 38 games, the young righty owns 10 home runs, 30 RBIs and a .270/.329/.599 slash line, accounting for a 153 wRC+.
Controlling the strike zone remains a work in progress for Nimmala, who’s punched out in a third of his 295 plate appearances with Dunedin this season. Still, the offensive production is outstanding for a player who won’t turn 19 until October and remains well below the average age (21) for single-A hitters.
