Ricky Tiedemann’s return to the mound has been stalled once again.
Per Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith, Tiedemann is going for injections in his neck after he was bothered by soreness in the neck/shoulder area over the past week.
After making two appearances with the FCL Blue Jays, Tiedemann was set to join Single-A Dunedin on June 23 for his next outing, but ended up being scratched without any known reason at the time. The following day, Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider confirmed that the reason was due to neck soreness.
The neck injury is the latest injury to slow the Blue Jays’ No. 4-ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline. Before his two outings in the FCL, Tiedemann had spent the entire season on the injured list due to left elbow soreness.
The 23-year-old was attempting to make his way back from Tommy John surgery that he underwent in July of 2024. Before the injury, Tiedemann had climbed to Triple-A with the Buffalo Bisons and appeared to be knocking on the door of joining the Blue Jays at the big league level.
During his two outings in the FCL, he was 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP across his two innings of work. The left-hander struck out four batters, sat at 95 MPH with his fastball, and was able to top out at 97 MPH, a positive step before this latest development.
While the next steps will be determined following his body’s response to the injections, a healthy finish to 2026 would go a long way in determining the future outlook for the former 2021 third-round draft pick within the Blue Jays’ organization.
