On Monday afternoon, the Toronto Blue Jays announced via their social media accounts that they have activated outfielder Nathan Lukes from the 10-day injured list.
Lukes returns to the Blue Jays’ 26-man roster exactly one month after being placed on the IL due to left hamstring strain. The 31-year-old appeared in four rehab games with High-A Dunedin Blue Jays, splitting his time between designated hitter and right field, and went 3-for-9 with one home run, three RBIs and three walks.
In 20 games with the Blue Jays this season, Lukes posted a .250 average with eight RBIs and a .286 on-base percentage. After a poor start to the year and dealing with vertigo, Lukes really started to find his stride after a trip to see a specialist in Arizona. In his last seven games before being injured, Lukes was 11-for-21 with six RBIs and was starting to look more like the version he flashed a season ago.
Last year with the Blue Jays, Lukes became an integral part of the club’s success by posting career-highs across nearly every statistical category. In 135 games, the outfielder batted .255 with 12 home runs and 65 RBIs, finishing the 2025 campaign with the sixth-most runs driven in. Lukes continued his run during the playoffs, batting .274 with eight RBIs and a .328 OBP.
In a corresponding move, Davis Schneider was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo.
The 27-year-old has really struggled to open the 2026 season, batting a lowly .127 with one home run and eight RBIs across 71 at-bats.
The month of May has been a grind for Schneider, going 4-for-23 with only one extra-base hit in that time frame. Notably, during the 2025 season, Schneider struggled to begin the year and was optioned down to Triple-A Buffalo on April 17 and remained with the Bisons until June 1.
Upon his return, Schneider’s play was much better, highlighted by August, in which Schneider batted .327 with five home runs and 16 RBIs. Schneider made his mark during the 2025 World Series, launching a lead-off home run off Los Angeles Dodgers’ left-hander Blake Snell to kickstart Game 5’s 6-1 victory.
With Yohendrick Piñango’s success through his first 23 games, and Lenyn Sosa being out of options, coupled with Schneider’s struggles, the Blue Jays were left in a position to demote the locker room favourite.
