The win streak is over.
On Tuesday evening, the Toronto Blue Jays’ six-game win streak was snapped, as they fell 6-3 to the Boston Red Sox.
Boston started the scoring early, as Jarren Durran led off the bottom of the first with his 20th home run of the season. After a walk and a double, Masataka Yoshida hit a single that scored both runners, putting the Jays in an early 3-0 hole.
A sacrifice fly scored the Blue Jays their first run of the game in the top of the third, but the Red Sox added an additional three runs in the bottom of the fifth, as David Hamilton hit an RBI single, Triston Casas hit an RBI double, and Wilyer Abreu singled on a ground ball.
The Jays chipped away at the lead in the remaining few innings, with Will Wagner hitting his first Major League home run to make it 6-2. On top of his first home run, Wagner also hit two doubles.
In the top of the ninth, Daulton Varsho hit his 16th home run of the season to make it 6-3, but the Blue Jays’ win streak ultimately fell with the loss.

Diving into the stats…

This was by far Will Wagner’s best game in the big leagues, as he had three extra-base hits in four at-bats. He now has five doubles and a home run. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. also hit a double, his 37th of the season as he had a multi-hit game.
The Blue Jays had their chances throughout the game. In total, they had 11 hits, as Daulton Varsho, Guerrero Jr., and Wagner all had two or more hits. Spencer Horwitz had a single and walked twice, while Addison Barger, Alejandro Kirk, and Joey Loperfido all had a single.
However, the team was 0-6 with runners in scoring position in the game, leaving nine runners stranded. For context, the Red Sox were 4-6 with runners in scoring position and only left four base runners stranded.
It wasn’t a great game for Yariel Rodríguez, as he finished with a line of 5 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, 1 BB, 3 K to bring his season ERA to 4.82. Tommy Nance was the first out of the bullpen, striking out three batters in two innings of work. Erik Swanson had another positive outing, striking out the side facing the minimum.
The Blue Jays continue their five-game series against the Red Sox on Wednesday, as that game starts at 7:10 PM ET. Chris Bassitt is the Blue Jays’ expected starter, while Brayan Bello is set to go for the Red Sox.
