Canada’s representation at the 2026 MLB All-Star Game received a boost last night.
On Saturday, it was announced that Canadian and Chicago White Sox outfielder Tristan Peters was named as a replacement for Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz on the American League’s All-Star team.
Peters, a native of Winkler, Manitoba, is in the midst of his first full season in the big leagues and has brought a spark to the White Sox’s lineup. Through 90 games, Peters is batting .302 with six home runs and 35 RBIs and has reached base at a .356 clip.
Originally selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the seventh round of the 2021 MLB Draft, Peters was dealt to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for Trevor Rosenthal. After appearing in 34 games with the Giants’ Double-A affiliate to close out 2022, Peters was dealt that offseason to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for infielder Brett Wisely.
Peters spent the 2023 season in Double-A with the Montgomery Biscuits, where he batted .275 with six home runs and 46 RBIs, helping him earn a promotion to Triple-A Durham to begin the 2024 season. Peters spent both the 2024 and 2024 seasons with the Bulls before having his contract selected on August 8.
The now 26-year-old made his MLB debut on August 8 against the Seattle Mariners, and over four games with the Rays last season, Peters went 0-for-12 with seven strikeouts. After his brief stint in the majors, the Rays traded Peters to the White Sox on December 18 in exchange for cash considerations.
After being part of four organizations to this point in his career, Peters appears to have found a home on Chicago’s South Side following a strong start to 2026. Last Friday, Peters became the third Canadian to hit for a cycle and will join Cade Smith and Otto Lopez as Canadians who will be in Philadelphia for the 2026 All-Star Game.
