Reminder: 2/3 of the earth is covered in water The rest is covered by Tristan Peters On September 5, he stole a homer AND made 2 diving catches to take away hits in a single game. Decent day at the office.

On Monday, we revealed that Milwaukee Brewers prospect Tyler Black was our #2 prospect on this list, bringing us to our top prospect.
Before we reveal #1, let’s take a look at some other Canadian players who fell just outside of the top 20.
Tristan Peters
Hometown: Winkler, Manitoba
Organization: Tampa Bay Rays
Position: Outfielder
Acquired: Trade with Giants, 2022
Peters has flown somewhat under the radar in prospect circles, having been traded twice since being drafted in 2021 by the Brewers.
Impressively, the Manitoban was a part of two one-for-one trades, each involving a big-league player going the other way. He was initially moved to the Giants for reliever Trevor Rosenthal in August of 2002, only to be traded to the Rays for infielder Brett Wisely in November of that same year. The 24-year-old has put up solid numbers wherever he has played in the minor leagues. He produced a .783 OPS in double-A in 2023, following up with a .746 mark in triple-A in 2024. The left-handed hitter’s on-base skills, solid outfield defense, and speed give him a nice floor as a potential fourth outfielder in the Major Leagues, perhaps as soon as 2025. He may never become a star, but Peters could easily be a guy who carves out a nice major-league career.
Matt Duffy
Hometown: Toronto, ON
Organization: Boston Red Sox
Position: Right-handed pitcher
Acquired: Fourth round, 2023 draft (BOS)
After staying close to home and pitching for Canisius College (Buffalo, NY), Duffy became the school’s highest-ever draft pick, signing for a below-slot $350k signing bonus in the fourth round.
After just three appearances after the draft, the six-foot-two right-hander impressed in 2024, positing a 2.83 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 9.1 K/9 across 21 single-A starts. The 23-year-old’s three-quarter arm slot delivery has some deception to it, which helps his low-mid-90s fastball play up a bit. His best secondary pitch is his changeup, which he can go to for swing and miss as well as to generate ground balls. He’s always been a guy who throws a lot of strikes, walking just 2.5 per nine in 2024. With some more success in 2025, he’s likely to have a chance to rise quickly through the Red Sox system and rank among the best Canadian pitching prospects going into 2026, similar to how Jonah Tong roared up the Mets system this past year.
Red Sox RHP prospect Matt Duffy getting some offseason work in. He posted a 2.83 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, .220 BAA, and 9.12 K/9 in 98.2 IP last year. Breakout szn 🔜
Connor O’Halloran
Hometown: Mississauga, ON
Organization: Toronto Blue Jays
Position: Left-handed pitcher
Acquired: Fifth round, 2023 draft (TOR)
The former Michigan Wolverine had an up-and-down first full season in 2024, pitching very well with single-A Dunedin before struggling in the second half with high-A Vancouver.
He posted a 3.13 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 10.1 K/9 with Dunedin, prompting the move up to high-A in late May. A walk rate at the higher level (4.9 BB/9 vs 3.1) was the main reason why the six-foot-two left-hander posted a 7.16 ERA and 1.55 WHIP after the call-up, as he struggled at times with his pitch placement and getting behind in the count. Placing 30th on MLB Pipeline’s top 30 Blue Jays prospects last year, O’Halloran is known for his command and control, even if it escaped him at times last year. His high 80s/low 90s fastball is on the lower side of the velo charts but he mixes in a plus slider and changeup to keep batters off balance.
Entering his second full season, a return to consistently throwing strikes will likely mean a promotion up to double-A by mid-season.

Indigo Diaz
Hometown: North Vancouver, BC
Organization: New York Yankees
Position: Right-handed pitcher
Acquired: Trade with Braves, 2022
Drafted by the Atlanta Braves out of Michigan State University, Diaz and infielder Caleb Durbin were both sent to the Yankees in late 2022, with the Braves acquiring reliever Lucas Luetge in exchange.
Diaz has posted excellent relief numbers whenever he’s been on the mound. Unfortunately for him, the lost pandemic season of 2020 as well as undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2023 has prevented the six-foot-five right-hander from working his way up to the Major Leagues over the years.
The North Vancouver native owns an impressive career 2.67 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 13.2 K/9 across 124 appearances, most of which came at the double-A level. He also had a couple of impressive appearances from Team Canada’s bullpen at the 2023 World Baseball Classic, allowing just one run over 3 1/3 innings while striking out four. After undergoing surgery in August of 2023, he was able to return to the mound less than a year later on July 12th, getting back to his dominant self in high-A. The right-hander’s mid-to-high 90s fastball has a lot of run to it, leading to his high strikeout numbers that could one day make him a high-leverage reliever at the highest level.
It’s likely that Diaz will start his season in double-A, but could work his way up to the majors in 2025. This kind of path to the big leagues was carved in 2024 by fellow Canadian Erik Sabrowski, who debuted at 27 years old after undergoing two separate Tommy John surgeries throughout his career.
Welcome back Indigo Diaz! Since returning from injury, the righty has thrown 9.1 IP over 8 appearances, allowing just 3 hits, 0 ER, with 1 BB and 10 strikeouts. @indigo_diaz | #TGBaseball
