The Toronto Blue Jays received some positive news on their injury front.
On Tuesday night, before the Blue Jays’ 6-1 series-opening loss against the Cleveland Guardians, manager John Schneider provided the media with an update on the club’s injured starters.
The closest one to returning is Jameson Taillon. The right-hander, whom the Blue Jays acquired from the Chicago Cubs on August 2, was removed from his second start after dealing with right forearm tendinitis.
After being placed on the injured list on August 11, Taillon returned to action in a rehab outing in Triple-A with the Buffalo Bisons and turned in a pitching line of 3.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K. The 34-year-old threw 48 pitches (34 strikes) and is set to throw a bullpen session in Cleveland. If all goes well, Taillon is expected to start Friday during the series opener against the Kansas City Royals.
Through 17 starts this season with both the Blue Jays and Cubs, Taillon is 2-6 with a 5.68 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. The righty has struck out 75 batters across 84 innings and has had opponents hit .253 against him.
As Trey Yesavage looks to make a late-season return, the right-hander is expected to throw a bullpen on Friday after spending the past few weeks throwing on flat ground. The 23-year-old underwent surgery to repair his meniscus after suffering the injury during a start against the Houston Astros on August 4.
The trip to the IL was Yesavage’s second of the season, as the righty opened the year on the mend after dealing with a right shoulder impingement to begin the 2026 campaign. Through 18 starts this season, Yesavage is 5-5 with a 3.65 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. Across 93.2 innings, Yesavage has struck out 91 batters and held opponents to a .185 average.
Right-hander Shane Bieber hopes to play catch at some point during the series against the Guardians. Bieber went on the IL with right teres major inflammation on August 21 and is hoping to return before the end of the year.
Through 11 starts this season, Bieber is 5-2 with a 4.37 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. Before going on the IL, Bieber was dominant through the month of August, having gone 3-0 with a 2.59 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. The 31-year-old struck out 22 batters across 24.1 innings and held opponents to a .232 average during that span.
