Dalton Pompey can’t catch a break

In positive Blue Jays news, Randal Grichuk (who you may or may not have forgotten about) has been moved up to Triple-A Buffalo to continue his rehab stint. There’s some bad news too, though. In a corresponding move, the Bisons placed Dalton Pompey on the disabled list with a thumb injury.
You really have to feel for Pompey because the guy simply can’t catch a break.
He rocketed up through the system in 2014, going through Single-A, Double-A, and Triple-A before getting a cup of coffee with the big league club in September. He made the Opening Roster in 2015 before losing his spot to Kevin Pillar and getting sent down.
Since then, things have gone into a tailspin. Pompey lost his confidence and had to go down to Double-A in 2015 to figure himself out. He was added to the playoff roster but was only used in pinch running situations. In 2016, it was deemed best for his development to spend the year in Triple-A, but he missed a significant chunk of time due to injury.
The worst came in 2017 when Pompey suffered a concussion at the World Baseball Classic playing for Team Canada. Pompey’s 2017 season was totally derailed as he played just 13 games across Single- and Triple-A.
He started the 2018 season on the DL, came back, started to hit pretty well, and now he’s hurt again. Ugh. Like I said, you gotta feel for Pompey. His ascent through the system back in 2014 was incredible and he appeared to be a key part of the team’s future, but, since then, nothing has gone right for him.
