On Friday, a new arm joined the Toronto Blue Jays’ top 30 prospects list.
After Yohendrick Piñango’s recent graduation from the rankings, 22-year-old right-hander Daniel Guerra has taken the No. 30 spot, according to MLB Pipeline.
Guerra was originally signed by the Blue Jays as an International Free Agent prospect in 2022. After a few rough years to begin his professional career, he has found his stride during the 2025 and 2026 campaigns.
The right-hander got off to a blazing start in the Dominican Summer League during the 2022 campaign, posting a 0.84 ERA, but soon ran into trouble. After being promoted to the FCL Blue Jays to begin the 2023 season, Guerra struggled to a 1-3 record and a 5.19 ERA across nine appearances.
The 2024 season that followed was much the same for Guerra. Between the FCL and Single-A Dunedin, Guerra went 1-8 with a 5.56 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP. Opponents hit .311 against Guerra, but as he climbed up to Dunedin, that number dropped to .179, giving people within the organization the belief that better results were on the horizon.
Guerra proved he could succeed by putting together a breakout season with the Blue Jays during the 2025 season. Over 22 games (13 starts), Guerra went 4-5 with a 3.40 ERA and 1.22 WHIP across 82 innings. Guerra recorded 84 strikeouts and once again gave opposing hitters fits, holding them to a .203 average.
Fast forward to the 2026 season, and Guerra has picked up where he left off in 2025. Guerra was promoted to High-A with the Vancouver Canadians and has become part of one of the better rotations in the minors alongside Johnny King and Nolan Perry. Through 12 starts, Guerra is 3-3 with a 3.17 ERA and 1.26 WHIP across 54 innings pitched.
The 6-foot-6 right-hander has continued to keep hitters in check, allowing just a .218 average over those 54 innings. Guerra’s strikeout rate has ticked way up, as he has punched out 73 batters so far this season in a year which is beginning to garner more attention.
