Edwin Jackson’s Grand Tour of the Major Leagues reaches Toronto
With the team’s starting pitching hanging by a thread, the front office added some veteran depth by acquiring the well-travelled Edwin Jackson from the Oakland Athletics.
Jackson has been pitching in the Major Leagues since the beginning of time. He made his debut as a 19-year-old with the Dodgers all the way back in 2001 and has pitched for 13 different teams over 16 seasons since then. He was technically a Blue Jay for a hot second, as the Jays traded Jason Frasor and Zach Stewart to the White Sox for Jackson, who they flipped to the Cardinals in the Colby Rasmus deal.
Most recently, Jackson pitched last season for the Oakland Athletics. Over 17 starts, Jackson posted a solid 3.33 ERA, though he only struck out 6.7 batters while walking 3.6 per nine. At this point, the Jays really just need a guy who can munch innings so the bullpen doesn’t get completely decimated. Given his 1892 1/3 career Major League innings, I figure Jackson is the right guy for the gig.
