A former Toronto Blue Jay is on the move… again.
It was reported on Saturday evening that Cavan Biggio was traded from the San Francisco Giants to the Atlanta Braves for cash considerations.

Biggio was selected all the way back in 2016 by the Blue Jays and spent eight seasons with the only Canadian team. After two great seasons in 2019 and 2020, Biggio hit a roadblock in 2021 and never found the success he had early in his career.
This season with the Jays, he slashed .200/.323/.291 with two home runs in 131 plate appearances, along with an 86 wRC+ for a 0.4 fWAR. However, his K% sat at 32.1% while his BB% took a hit, dropping to 10.7%.
The Jays traded Biggio to the contending Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for relief prospect Braydon Fisher. Biggio’s tenure with the Dodgers was short lived though, as he slashed .192/.306/.329 with three home runs in 88 plate appearances, along with an 11.4 BB% and a 31.8 K%. In early August, he was designated for assignment and became a free agent, eventually signing a minor league deal with the San Francisco Giants.

With the Giants’ Triple-A team, Biggio slashed .163/.413/.326 with two home runs in 63 plate appearances, along with a higher BB% (27%) than K% (20.6%) for a 106 wRC+.
Although the trade deadline was well over a month ago, teams are still allowed to make trades this late in the season. However, Biggio won’t be eligible to play on the Atlanta Braves’ playoff roster as he was acquired after the trade deadline.
This could be a reactionary move for the Braves, as another former Blue Jay on their roster, was diagnosed with a broken foot recently after fouling a ball off his foot. It’s unclear when Merrifield will return, but Biggio has the ability to play multiple positions as Merrifield does.
