Back in early 2021, the Blue Jays were looking for some pitching depth and turned to the desert for some assistance. What culminated was a cash trade for right-hander Jeremy Beasley, who had been designated for assignment by the Arizona Diamondbacks five days prior. A former 30th-round pick of the Los Angeles Angels in 2017, Beasley spent parts of two seasons with the Blue Jays split between 2021 and 2022, splitting time in both the big leagues and in Buffalo given his minor league options.
At the big league level with the Jays, Beasley posted a 5.92 ERA through 24 1/3 innings and 17 relief appearances. The Georgia product allowed 21 hits and 16 earned runs in that span while striking out 32 batters to the tune of a 11.8 K/9 and a 5.2 BB/9 while riding the options bus between the Blue Jays and the Buffalo Bisons.
On August 2, 2022, the Jays traded Beasley to the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash considerations and he finished the year in triple-A before being released by the Pirates the following offseason.
That winter, Beasley decided to take his talents overseas to Japan and signed with the Hanshin Tigers in the Nippon Professional Baseball on a one-year deal.
Beasley made nine appearances in the Western League, the NPB’s version of the minor leagues, and posted a 2.25 ERA through 44 innings. He also made 18 appearances for the Tigers in the Central League with the main squad and continued to post strong numbers in his first campaign overseas, authoring a 2.20 ERA through 18 outings and 41 innings. With the Tigers, Beasley posted a 1.171 WHIP and a 9.4 K/9 while limiting the walks to a 2.9 BB/9 rate to a 1-2 record while allowing 10 earned runs on the year, working both in the rotation and the bullpen.
For the 2024 season, Beasley re-signed with the Tigers on a one-year deal and returned to the minor leagues with the squad, where he continues to post strong numbers to start the season. In the Western League, the 28-year-old has allowed just two earned runs through six outings and 26 innings, walking nine batters while striking out opponents at a 6.6 K/9 rate.
At this rate, there is a high chance that Beasley will be moving to the main squad in the near future likely working out of the bullpen, potentially in a role that can eat up multiple innings. He dealt with some shoulder problems to start the year and has been putting up solid results with the second squad in the Western League so far this season that should see him moved up to the Central League in the near future.
