The Los Angeles Dodgers have been crowned the 2024 World Series champions.
On Wednesday evening, the Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees 7-6, winning the series 4-1. After being down 5-0, the Dodgers stormed back in the top of the fifth as they hit around to tie the score. The Yankees scored in the bottom of the six to regain the lead, but thanks to two sacrifice flies in the top of the eighth, the Dodgers captured their eighth World Series in franchise history.
Of course, there are also former Blue Jays on the Dodgers roster. In the top of the fifth, Teoscar Hernández hit a low slider on a 1-2 count to drive in two runs to tie the game. The former Blue Jays spent five seasons with the Jays before being traded to the Seattle Mariners. In the postseason, Hernández slashed .250/.352/.417 with three home runs in 71 plate appearances.
Another former Blue Jay is Kevin Kiermaier. The 34-year-old announced he’d retire midway through the season, and was traded to the Dodgers before the trade deadline for Ryan Yarbrough. He wasn’t on the World Series roster, but will still get a ring. It is a nice retirement present.

Of course, there are also two relievers in the bullpen of the Dodgers. Anthony Banda pitched 6.1 innings with the Jays in 2022, posting a 4.26 ERA and a 4.38 FIP, with a 25.9 K% and an 11.1 BB%. After pitching for Washington in 2023, he found his way to the Dodgers where he had a 3.08 ERA and a 3.67 FIP in 49.2 innings pitched. In the postseason, the lefty had a 1.23 ERA and a 2.89 FIP in 7.1 innings pitched.
The last former Blue Jay for the Dodgers is Daniel Hudson, who pitched with the team back in 2019. At the trade deadline, Toronto moved him to Washington, where he recorded the final out and won his first World Series. This postseason, he had a 7.50 ERA and a 4.83 FIP in 6 innings pitched.
On the Yankees side, the former Blue Jays on the team are Marcus Stroman, Tim Mayza, Mark Leiter Jr., and Jon Berti, who was taken off the World Series roster.
Congratulations to the Dodgers, and let the off-season begin!
