As the fight for a new Collective Bargaining Agreement carries on, the next wave of talent to rise to the majors continues to suffer from this stalemate between owners and the Players Association.

Major League Baseball&#8217;s current lockout is directly affecting hundreds of players across the sport, although none have been more impacted than the prospects who&#8217;re featured on their respective organization&#8217;s 40-man roster.
By rule, any player that occupies a 40-man roster spot during a lockout is forbidden to train at MLB-run facilities and also isn&#8217;t eligible to participate in any games either &#8211; including the minor leagues. For the Toronto Blue Jays, this unfortunate dilemma not only affects their major league roster but also some of the top prospects in their system.
Amongst that group, includes one of the game&#8217;s brightest young stars, Gabriel Moreno, who was added to Toronto&#8217;s 40-man roster last off-season. While a necessary move at the time, as it protected the 22-year-old from the annual Rule 5 Draft, it&#8217;s now preventing him from taking part in this franchise&#8217;s minor-league camp in Dunedin, Florida.
Just one season after enjoying another sensational performance, where he slashed .373/.441/.651 through 145 plate appearances at double-A New Hampshire, Moreno is now forced to train by himself as he prepares for a pivotal 2022 campaign.
Considering the 5&#8217;11&#8221; catcher concluded last season at triple-A Buffalo, if not for this MLB-imposed lockout, chances are he&#8217;d be a shoo-in to open the year as the Bisons&#8217; full-time backstop. But unless a CBA is signed rather soon, he&#8217;ll be forced to watch from afar when the triple-A season begins on Apr. 5.

Now, with Opening Day 2022 delayed, neither Smith nor Lopez will be permitted to begin this season at triple-A Buffalo &#8211; where they both spent plenty of time last summer. Though they&#8217;re likely to end up at that level eventually, it&#8217;s more of a question about how many games will be missed before that happens.
Moving on down the list, which brings us to highly-touted infielder Leo Jimenez, who was one of four players &#8211; five including pitcher Shaun Anderson &#8211; added to Toronto&#8217;s 40-man roster earlier this winter.
