The Toronto Blue Jays could soon be getting a veteran arm back in their bullpen.
On Wednesday night, Joe Mantiply made his first rehab outing with Single-A Dunedin as he works his way back from left-knee surgery
Entering in the bottom of the sixth inning during Dunedin’s 7-5 loss against the Clearwater Threshers, Mantiply required only 10 pitches (six strikes) to work through his first inning since May 17.
The first batter Mantiply faced was Philadelphia Phillies 2026 10th-rounder Reece Moroney. Mantiply got Moroney to ground out to shortstop Raimundo De Los Santos on an 88.5 MPH sinker.
After a quick one-pitch out, Mantiply engaged in a six-pitch battle with Jack Hopko. With a 3-2 count, Mantiply once again turned to his sinker, this time painting an 88.8 MPH one on the outside corner that Hopko unsuccessfully challenged, resulting in a strikeout looking.
For his final batter of the evening, Mantiply used a 1-1, 80.3 MPH changeup to get Will Gasparino to ground out to third baseman Juan Sanchez and put an end to an efficient first rehab outing.
Originally signed by the Blue Jays to a minor-league contract on March 3, Mantiply has appeared in 17 games with the big-league club this season. Through his 17 appearances, the left-hander is 1-0 with a 2.04 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP.
Over 17.2 innings pitched, Mantiply has struck out 16 batters and held opponents to a .254 average. With an ever-changing bullpen, Mantiply could factor in down the stretch as one of the lefties alongside Mason Fluharty.
