Francisco Liriano will get the ball today as the Blue Jays look to do something they haven’t done yet this season: Win a series.

Yikes. So much for the weighted ball program, right? Delabar had himself an amazing season in 2013 and was a very heartwarming comeback story, but I would imagine this is the end of the line for him as a ball player. Still, though, one All-Star appearance and a few years of big league time? That’s more than most people get.

An injury update from Arash Madani here, telling us that both Aaron Sanchez and J.A. Happ will be unavailable in St. Louis, meaning both Casey Lawrence and Mat Latos will make another start this week. I would have hoped both Sanchez and Happ returned as quickly as possible, but the baseball season is a marathon and not a sprint, so it’s best not to rush them. Latos and Lawrence both did an admirable job filling in last weekend, I think.

Jesse Chavez: 18 IP, 5.00 ERA, 10 ER, 11 H, 5 BB, 3 HR, 16 SO

After making an emergency relief appearance in Friday’s extra innings marathon, Jesse Chavez will finally get to make a start against his former club. Jose Bautista took Chavez deep for a game-winning bomb in that game, ultimately surrendering three runs on four hits over one inning of work. We know what Chavez is all about. His stuff isn’t that great, but he works hard, manages the game well, and knows how to mix his pitches very effectively, but he’s certainly somebody the Jays can hit so long as their bats decide to stay awake. Francisco Liriano will go for the Jays, looking to build on back-to-back good starts against Baltimore and Boston. Being an National League pitcher the past few seasons, nobody on the Angels will be familiar with him or what he has to offer, which could compensate for the fact Anaheim is typically strong against lefties.
