With the trade deadline ever approaching, there’s still games to be played and the Toronto Blue Jays, likely to trade away multiple pieces over the next week, are set to host the Tampa Bay Rays.
Tampa rolls into town fresh off a four-game split with the New York Yankees, as the Jays are coming off a series loss to the Detroit Tigers, despite winning the final game of the series.
Jose Berrios, who has allowed two or fewer runs against the Rays in four of his last five starts, takes the mount for the Jays tonight looking to rebound from three rough starts. The Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks each put up over four runs against him, but it’s been Dome Sweet Dome for Berrios this season.
He’s posted a 6-1 record and a 2.97 ERA in nine starts at the Rogers Centre this year, towering over his 2-6 road record in which he’s had a 4.99 ERA across 11 starts.
The Rays, meanwhile send out Shawn Armstrong to the mound, who has struggled against the top of the order. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has a 1.604 OPS across 14 plate appearances, George Springer has a 1.250 OPS across 12 PA’s, while Justin Turner has a 1.334 OPS across three PA’s.
