Beyond young Blue Jays hitters rip up opposing pitchers, or Vladimir Guerrero Jr. continuing to do the same, there isn’t much to be excited about in Toronto’s baseball world these days.
But that could change this week, as the Jays host the New York Mets for a three-game series. While the Jays are well out of the American League Wild Card race, the OMG Mets find themselves in the thick of things, tied for the third wild card spot in the National League with the Braves.
The Mets have been red hot lately, however, going 9-1 in their last 10, 14-6 in their last 20 and 19-11 in their last 30. As strong on the road as at home, their No. 5 man in the rotation, Tylor Megill, will take the mound for them Monday night.
He was optioned to Triple-A after the trade deadline, but found his way back up when Paul Blackburn — one of their acquisitions — injured his hand. Megill made his first start back on Aug. 30, allowing one earned run across five innings against the lowly Chicago White Sox, but the Boston Red Sox got to him, pumping three earned runs across four innings, something the Jays will look to do tonight.
Ryan Burr will get the start for the Jays, while Ryan Yarborough will likely serve as a long-reliever.
